In these operations, also known as Gastric By-Pass, a large part of the stomach is bypassed and a small volume (approximately 30-50 cc) stomach section is prepared and sutured to the small intestines. In this surgery, as in other bariatric surgery operations, it is aimed to reduce the volume of the stomach and to disable a part of the intestines and to throw away some of the consumed food without being absorbed. Thus, patients are both satiated with less food and some of the food they take is absorbed.

Gastric bypass surgery is usually performed with the laparoscopic method, as in other obesity surgeries. Surgery is performed by entering through small incisions in the abdomen. Thus, the patient is largely protected from possible post-operative risks such as wound infection and hernia.

After the surgical intervention, patients start to feel full easily with small amounts of food intake, and after a while, the feeling of fullness remains at a normal appetite level, and food intake decreases. Due to the reduced size of the newly formed stomach and reduced food absorption, it is necessary to follow the surgeon's instructions for the use of necessary vitamin and mineral supplements. The patient can continue his normal life by being sent home after 3-4 days.
